Discovery:

SEMAX belongs to the class of neuropeptides. It was developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia. The research for the discovery of SEMAX included over 30 scientists from various fields of neurology. These scientists focused on a small segment of the adrenocorticotropic hormone, Pro8-Gly9-Pro10ACTH(4-10). The focus was also placed on dissociating several amino acids, substituting, and linking peptides. All of these combined had unique neuroregulatory properties.

After extensive research over 14 years, the Russian Federal Ministry approved using SEMAX as a neuroactive peptide. This unique molecule has several beneficial neurological functions that help improve cognitive functions.   

Mechanism of action:

SEMAX peptide is the synthetic form of ACTH. The mechanism of action of SEMAX is similar to ACTH. It helps elevate the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and the signaling receptor TrkB in the hippocampus. Additionally, it helps activate serotonergic and dopaminergic systems in the brain.
